Standardized Testing at A+
Learning Solutions
- The following tests are available to be administered through A+
Leaning Solutions.
-
Stanford Achievement Test (SAT)
-
California Achievement test (CAT)
-
Iowa Achievement test (Iowa)
-
Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test previously released (FCAT)
-
- All the tests except the FCAT will be purchased and scored
through a testing company and can serve as your annual evaluation,
should you choose to use it that way. The FCAT is the previously
released version therefore would not count as your annual
evaluation. However, anyone taking a standardized test can have a
portfolio evaluation at the same time for ½ the regular cost.
-
- The following prices are based on multiple children attending
testing at the same time. I am currently looking at setting dates
during the last week of May or the 1st week of June. After the
prices is more information about the tests.
-
- If you are interested in testing please email us at
KatieKeebler@A-Plus-Learning.com. Please indicate which test
you are interested in, the grade of your child(ren) and which dates
work best for your family.

- FCAT – The Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test is part
of Florida’s overall plan to increase student achievement by
implementing higher standards. The FCAT, administered to students in
Grades 3-11, contains two basic components: criterion-referenced
tests (CRT), measuring selected benchmarks in Mathematics, Reading,
and Science, from the Sunshine State Standards (SSS); and
norm-referenced tests (NRT) in Reading and Mathematics, measuring
individual student performance against national norms. It takes
2-2.5 hours per subject to administer.
-
- These are previously released test and will be hand scored here
at A+ Learning Solutions; therefore this test would not count as
your annual evaluation. However this will give you a good idea of
how your child is performing in comparison with other children who
have taken the FCAT. If you would like to do a portfolio evaluation
at the same time as the test I will do it for ½ price.

THE CALIFORNIA ACHIEVEMENT TEST
- The C.A.T./5® Complete Battery:
Tests are available for each grade from Kindergarten to 12th grade.
This is a full-length test for each grade from one to twelve and
gives the most comprehensive test results. Grades 2 - 12 will
require about 4 1/2 to 5 1/2 hours work time, but can be spread over
several days. The student report shows not only how each student
compares with others in the same grade, but also shows how well the
student has done in mastering specific learning goals.
There are two different First Grade tests called Level 10 and Level
11.
Consider giving the Level 10 first grade test, if the student is not
yet reading very well. If the student stumbles over reading, sounds
out most words, and is just a slower reader; then Level 10 is the
right test.
If you have any question as to giving Level 10 or Level 11 of the
Complete Battery, it is best to give Level 10. The first time a
student takes this type of test, it is better to give a relatively
easier test. This gives the student a positive experience about test
taking and his own academic ability.
First Grade, Level 10: total testing time 1 ½ hours; 4 subject
categories, each about 22 minutes long (better for shorter attention
spans).
Reading skills: mostly sight words or phrases; some sentences 5 or 6
words long.
Math skills: no computation, just pictorial math.
First Grade Level 11: total testing time 3 ¾ hours (can be spread
over several days); 9 subject categories, each up to 33 minutes long
(requires longer attention span).
Reading skills: some sentences up to 8 – 10 words; more reading
needed in other subject areas.
Math skills: has computation including some double digit addition
and subtraction.
When ordering First Grade: choose Grade One and then specify whether
Level 10 or Level 11.
The Grade K test for Kindergarten: a readiness test, not an
achievement test. It does not test academic achievement. Some
kindergarten students may be ready for and can be given the Grade
One, Level 10, test.
The C.A.T./5® Survey: The short form of the
Complete Battery available only for Grades 2 - 12. It covers all the
same academic subjects as the Complete Battery. It requires 2 to 2 ½
hours. We are frequently asked if the Survey form meets North
Carolina requirements. The answer is “YES”, it does. If you want to
use the Survey in other states, check your state’s requirements at:
www.hslda.org/laws/default.asp. The Student Report compares each
student with others in the same grade, similar to the Complete
Battery; but the Survey does not give you information regarding
mastery of specific learning goals.
Reasons you might want to give the CAT/5 Survey:
.. 1) This test is shorter and easier to give, while
covering all the subjects including science and social studies.
.. 2) It might be better for a student with short
attention span.
.. 3) It may keep test anxiety lower.
.. 4) It can be administered and easily completed in one
day.
Whether you use the Complete Battery or the Survey, you will receive
excellent student reports based on the computer scoring of the tests
by the California Testing Bureau, McGraw-Hill, and printed on their
official form.
Basic Skills: For a more limited test, called
"Basic Skills", order the Complete Battery; but do not give the
Social Studies, Science, Word Analysis or Study Skills subtests. The
instructions will tell you exactly how to do this. This Complete
Battery Basic Skills Test requires 3 1/2 hours.
For the very shortest Basic Skills test, order the Survey and again
do not give the subtests just listed. Requires 2 hours.
